Speaking following the passing of the South Dublin County Council annual budget 2015, Sinn Féin Councillor for Templeogue-Terenure and Mayor of South Dublin County Fintan Warfield has welcomed the cut to conference expenses for Councillors who wish to travel abroad.

A figure of €70,000 was set to be available to South Dublin Councillors before Sinn Féin tabled an amendment to instead divert that money into the housing department.

Mayor Warfield said;

“It is crucial that in a council chamber where the majority of Councillors are newly elected representatives, the culture of expenses is tackled head on.

“Sinn Féin has now rightly secured an end to ‘Conferences Abroad’ expenditure in South Dublin County Council.

“People are tired of a system where those in power gain personally while citizens in general struggle to make ends meet.

“The €70,000 in savings will now be allocated to the housing department – one of the biggest challenges facing this Council.”
