Speaking at the event Mayor Warfield urged people to think about those in need and encouraged everyone to remember the older members of our community at this time of year. He also reminded people of his pledge to use the office of Mayor to highlight homelessness.
Mayor Warfield commented:
“No family should have to sleep night after night in a hotel. No young people should have to sleep rough on a December’s night.
“Local government must be given an opportunity to meet people’s housing need.
As well as the lighting of the Christmas tree, BMA Clondalkin kickboxing club and local girl Kym Doyle, who has represented Ireland for the last two years in the World Kickboxing Championships were honoured.
Music for the evening was provided by the RAMS (Retired Active Mens Association) from Newcastle who sang plenty of Christmas songs and entertained the crowd.
Mayor Warfield gave special mention to the representatives from the Clondalkin Tidy Town’s Committee who were in attendance and acknowledged the fantastic work that the dedicated volunteers made during the year in the upkeep of Clondalkin village.
Mayor Warfield took the opportunity to wish all the Citizens of South Dublin a Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year.
