The Sinn Féin candidate for Templeogue-Terenure Fintan Warfield has this week welcomed the announcement by Dublin South West TD and Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte regarding the use of the ESB network to enhance the provision of high speed broadband.
New legislation will allow the ESB to engage in the electronic communications sector.
The communications graduate said:
“I was delighted to hear the Minister’s announcement and hope that it will accelerate the provision of high speed broadband in parts of the state where there is an absence or marked deficiency in the service.
“I urge the Minister to stick to his commitment to state-led investment in projects, such as broadband provision, where the private sector has been unwilling to engage.
Fintan Warfield concluded:
“I hope that unlike the situation we now have with Bord Gáis Energy that the ESB network and retail distribution is retained in public ownership.”
