Mayor expresses continued support for Dublin Bus workers

Sinn Féin Councillor and Mayor of South Dublin County Council Fintan Warfield has expressed his continued support for the staff of Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann who today entered their second day of industrial action in response to the privatisation of bus routes across the state.

The Sinn Féin Councillor for Templeogue-Terenure said;

“The staff of Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann, despite their valued work, are being backed into a corner and forced to take industrial action in response to the privatisation of our public bus routes.

End zero hour contracts – Mayor Warfield

Mayor of South Dublin and Sinn Féin Councillor, Fintan Warfield has welcomed the support by South Dublin County Council for his motion calling on the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation to adopt an industrial relations policy that ends zero hour contracts, supports banded hour and full time contracts, protecting vulnerable workers creating a benchmark for sustainable decent employment.

Calls for Section 37.1 of the Employment Legislation to be amended

The Mayor of South Dublin County and Sinn Féin Councillor for Templeogue-Terenure Fintan Warfield has this evening welcomed the passing of a motion calling on the government to amend Section 37.1 of the Employment Equality Act 1998.

South Dublin County Council voted overwhelmingly in favour of the motion.

Sinn Féin Councillors oppose South Dublin’s participation in Gateway scheme

Speaking in the South Dublin County Council chamber this evening, the Mayor of South Dublin County and Sinn Féin Councillor for Templeogue-Terenure Fintan Warfield called on government to abandon the Gateway scheme.

Debating the motion in opposition to Gateway, Mayor Warfield said;

“Recognising that Gateway is compulsory, that it punishes people for being unemployed and copper-fastens the under-staffing of local services, this motion calls on the relevant Ministers to stop the roll-out of Gateway in local authorities immediately.”

Warfield rejects ‘Gateway’ scheme

Sinn Féin candidate for Templeouge-Terenure Fintan Warfield has called on the Government to abandon the Gateway Scheme which will see 215 unemployed people carry out work for South Dublin County Council through the threat of cuts and suspensions to welfare payments.

Warfield said:

“Gateway seeks to take advantage of some of the most vulnerable people in our society by forcing them into twenty-two months of labour for a welfare top-up of €20 that can be eroded by tax.

Resolution of ESB dispute an important victory for workers

Sinn Féin representative and candidate in the 2014 Local Elections for Templeogue – Terenure Fintan Warfield has welcomed the agreement reached between management and workers at ESB regarding the company’s pension scheme.

The first time candidate said:

“The resolution of the ESB pension dispute is good news for workers and indeed for the company’s customers.
