The Local Government (Transparency and Public Engagement) Bill 2019 is a bill that would require all Local Authorities to publicly broadcast Council meetings (via a livestream on their website).
This legislation would also require Local Authorities to make their meeting agendas available publicly on their website three days prior to the meeting. The current law only requires agendas to be made available for inspection in hard copy at the council buildings.
This legislation is inspired by the success of Oireachtas TV and the Dublin City Council webcasting service, where in an age of online communication, the public can engage with the business of their Council. It would also allow members to better communicate their contributions to their electorate.
